Welcome to Kellygriffithsart
I discovered art at the age of eight watching my mother who had promised herself to develop her love for art once we [my brother and I] became more independent. I am so thankful she did. As my mother pursued many art courses working in a variety of mediums and teaching art from her studio to primary age children. I grew in confidence and was so inspired by her. My love for art really took off during high school years, I particularly enjoyed painting portraits in pastels.
A move to Noosa at age seventeen opened up a world of scenic beauty from the Noosa River to the National Park and its beaches. I learnt a great deal about drawing and watercolour through art classes with a very knowledgable artist Reg Roberts who had also been an insect ecologist and was also owner of ‘Unique Impressions’ Art supply shop.
I had my first solo exhibition when I was nineteen ‘The Noosa Collection’, which consisted of some thirty paintings of the Noosa River, beaches and genre painting, in a variety of mediums, pastel, watercolour and oils. Many commissions followed mostly with a Noosa theme, including a commission from Outrigger resort of some twenty-five plus artworks in watercolour and oils of the Noosa River.

At twenty-one I was married living in Gympie. I continued to paint for art shows and commissions from still life, portraiture and river scenes. In 2003 I had an exhibition through the regional art gallery called ‘Essence of Cooloola’ which included still life, genre painting, portraiture, landscapes, tree scapes and townscapes in mediums such as, pastel, watercolour, ink, and oils.
During school holidays at the regional art gallery I taught children about colour and drawing. Also through the gallery I attended life drawing classes. I donated a genre painting to the Maternity ward in the Gympie hospital called ‘Gardening’ depicting a mother gardening with her two daughters. Also I received funding from RADF to develop my art to attend workshops whilst travelling around Australia, I attended portraiture workshops in pastels by Bob Baird and in oils by Josonia Palaitas.
My husband and I moved to Tasmania in 2010 with our young family. I was able to attend oil painting classes with Tasmanian artist Peter Glover. And later a workshop with Botanical artist Leonie Norton. We have been able to transform an old garage and carport next to the house into a beautiful art studio and picture framing space/business.
Currently my art is inspired by observations of nature, I take joy in seeing all forms of life in the natural environment from flora, birds, bugs, fauna as well as tree scapes and I recognise this as God’s creation and my artistic interpretation of it. I have a beautiful range of cards, cushions and tea towels printed from my art available from my studio, Etsy http://kellygriffithsart.etsy.com, and local boutique shops.
Being an artist Tasmania has allowed me to explore such endless natural beauties, all over the state, and absorb and be inspired to create works of art.
