The Surrounded by Nature series
The ‘Surrounded By Nature’ series, began with an idea to create a series of nine Paintings celebrating the jewels of nature, featuring birds, butterflies, bugs and flowers.
Too often we fill our lives with busyness and fail to see the natural treasures surrounding us. The circle represents that treasure is all around us, I believe it to be God’s creation. That treasure is living things, some native some introduced, these all discovered through observation and through the impression I want to make as an artist to create something that celebrates nature like a jewel.
Also unique to this series is each painting is surrounded by a 5mm Huon Pine mat. Huon Pine is one of Australia’s oldest living trees and can age from hundreds to thousands of years, it’s endemic to Tasmania. It contains a natural preserving oil with an unmistakable perfume. The rich golden colour features birds eye figuring which harmonises well with the artworks.
